At Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street, there is a tourist information center called the “Sannomiya HATENA”. They have maps to different places and English speaking staff can give you suggestions on what to see in Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street. Epi took advantage of the service, too!

Epi’s comments:My time in Sannomiya was wonderful. In large part due to the maps and helpful information from the Information Center conveniently located in the center of Centergai street.

This is a tourist information center located at where Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street and Ikuta Suji meet, at the northeastern corner.
There are also English speaking staffs assisting foreign visitors.

It’s time for an enjoyable meal at Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street! We headed to the underground shopping street.
This is a street with restaurants like an oden restaurant with a Japanese-style signboard and a simple diner with cherry blossom decorations, to name a few.
There are many popular restaurants, like the katsudon (rice bowl with fried pork cutlet on top) shop and the gyōza (dumplings) diner, with a long line of people waiting in front of the entrance. Maybe the long line caught Epi’s attention?

Epi’s comments:After all that walking I was ready to eat. My favorite thing about Sannomiya is the food. I discovered so many delicious Japanese and foreign food restaurants and friendly staff in and around Sannomiya’s underground shopping mall. Oden and gyoza and seafood, Oh Yum!

At Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street (Sun Plaza, Center Plaza, Center Plaza West Building) there are many eateries on the basement floor.
It’s a bustling place where you can see many restaurants with people forming a long line in front of the entrance especially at lunch time.

There are restaurants and also shops that sell fresh ingredients.
The eye-catcher was the fish market. When you see the brilliant fish you can feel you are at the just Asian market.
Epi was curiously checking the freshness of the fish.

The basement floor of Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street also has an area like a market. Fresh ingredients can be bought here.
Fish markets like Uota Shōten is a shop that anybody can enjoy by just looking.

Why not have a drink at a bar after a nice dinner? If you want to drink in an American atmosphere while in Japan, we recommend the bar Jack Daniels!
We also recommended Epi a bar with a unique atmosphere called Donzoko (means the depths).

Epi’s comments:After all that food, I ended my adventurous day with a drink at the unique Donzoko bar. Then, I had one more drink for the road at the American-style, Jack Daniels bar.

On the basement floor of Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street, there are a few bars that have been there for quite a while.
Their long-time frequenters choose these bars to enjoy the unique atmosphere.

You can find various eateries below the elevated train tracks of JR Kobe and Hankyū Lines that pass the north side of Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street.
Many of the shops have noren (dividing curtains) or signboards that display the characteristics of the shops and foreign visitors can easily understand what they offer.
Epi was reading the menu on the signboard to see what they have.

Below the elevated train tracks

There is a small alley below the elevated train tracks of JR Kobe and Hankū Lines where various eateries, apparel shops and variety stores are lined up close to each other.
There are many eateries particularly in the area on the north of Kobe Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street and is bustling with people regardless of the time of day.
